Burger Buns

These soft, pillowy burgery buns are rich, buttery, and perfectly tender. Brushed with egg wash for a golden finish, they’re the ultimate bun—perfect for bbqs, family dinners, or everyday meals.

Ingredients

• 2 cups milk
• ½ cup butter
• ½ cup cane sugar
• 3 tsp active dry yeast
• 5 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 tsp salt
• 1 egg and splash of water (for brushing tops)
• optional: 2 Tbsp sesame seeds (see note)

Instructions

1. In a medium pot, combine milk, butter, and sugar.
2. Heat over medium-low until the butter is melted.
3. Remove from heat and let cool until warm to the touch (not hot).
4. Stir in the yeast and let sit for 10 minutes, until foamy.
5. Add 3 cups of flour and mix well.
6. Cover with a towel and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
7. Add 1–2 cups of flour and the salt.
8. Mix until a soft dough forms. The dough should be soft but not overly sticky. Add just enough flour so it can be lightly kneaded without sticking.
9. Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions and shape into balls.
10. Place in a greased 9×13-inch pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
11. While rising, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
12. Brush the tops with some of the egg wash (reserve the rest).
13. Bake for 22–25 minutes, until golden brown.
14. Immediately brush hot rolls with remaining egg wash
15. Let cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

You can get 6 large buns or 8 regular sized, depending on your preference.

You can sprinkle sesame seeds immediately after brushing on the egg wash, while it is still wet, and then bake.
